“If you’d know some of the things that Babcock says to Chris Chelios it would make your stomach churn,” Jeremy Roenick said. “…The way he is talked to is just unacceptable. I wish I could elaborate, but that’s not proper. It’s just disrespectful.”
Now, anyone who’s spent any time in the Detroit dressing room knows that no one slags Chris Chelios. Not just because of what he would say in return, but also he has his cohorts Draper and Maltby nearby.
Chelios has never taken crap from anyone in his life.
And with Chelios playing little these days – and being a fitness addict – he would continue working out after the rest of the team has left the ice.
And maybe Babcock would joke about him getting old and slowing down, but there would be a lot of respect behind such comments.
Not only does Babcock respect Chelios, but he’s smart enough to know that he could kill his dressing room by dissing the veteran.
And as Babcock retorted, he’s lived in the states – four of them in fact – for the past decade and a half and has two children who are American citizens. As well, Babcock’s salary is paid by American owners and American fans.
The big question is why is Roenick saying this now?
I would speculate that the Chicago native’s trying to cause trouble within the Red Wings, and help out his old team, the Blackhawks.
