“…Dan Cloutier, who’s in Red Wings training camp on a tryout, will play in an exhibition game, either Monday at the New York Rangers or Tuesday at Philadelphia, coach Mike Babcock said.
“He hasn’t played in a year, so we thought the best way to approach it is to get in camp (and practice) a little bit,” Babcock said.
Cloutier, 33, hasn’t played since the 2007-08 season with Los Angeles. He has been bothered by a series of ailments, including a season-ending hip injury midway through 2006-07.
General manager Ken Holland is considering offering Cloutier a two-way contract but would need to find a minor-league team for him because he will not play in Detroit. The Red Wings are set with Jimmy Howard as their backup and that’s not going to change going into the season.
Cloutier might end up playing in Europe.”
